Kenyan firm plans large cold chain facility in East Africa

A main Kenyan warehouse and logistics service supplier Cold Solutions, says it’s going to invest USD 70 million to assemble the largest cold chain facility in East Africa to address challenges that face transportation of perishable goods.
Cold Solution’s 15,000 sqm flagship facility in Tatu City Special Economic Zone in Nairobi would be the largest, most superior and efficient in the area. The cold chain facility is flexibly designed to cater for numerous temperature ranges from +26 to -40 C and multiple product ranges, from recent fruit and greens, to pharmaceuticals and vaccines, meats and poultry, and frozen foods.
Cold Solutions Kenya is a portfolio company of ARCH Cold Chain Solutions East Africa Fund, a non-public equity fund advised by ARCH Emerging Markets Partners Limited (ARCH).

The United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization estimates that over 40% of meals in Sub-Saharan Africa perishes before it reaches a shopper. This may be as high as 60% for recent produce in Sub-Saharan Africa.
